Here you will find answers to questions about using the Construction Equipment Register (BGL) online application.
General information
The Construction Equipment Register (BGL) Online and the book are based on the same data material.
In terms of content, technical innovations and change requirements in construction practice have been mapped compared to 2020. For example, numerous new devices have been added, particularly in the areas of electromobility and alternative drives. In order to be able to map the large number of new appliance types in the existing structure, the previously purely numerical classification scheme was expanded to include an alphanumeric structure in individual groups. Nevertheless, the greatest possible continuity was generally maintained. The main structural elements: appliance group, appliance subgroup, appliance type, technical parameter(s) and the manufacturer-neutral average replacement value of the appliances remain structural components of this BGL 2025. All economic indicators, in particular the mean original values, have been updated.
In the online version of BGL 2025, the data will be updated as necessary to include new appliances and equipment.
To understand the navigation and the meaning of the terms, we recommend reading the basic information of the Construction Equipment Register.
The BGL version 2020 (and soon also the BGL 2015) are available as integrated archive versions in the new web application with a corresponding licence key. You can find more information here.
Until the archive data has been fully transferred to the new system, existing customers will continue to have access to the previous BGL 2020, BGL 2015 and BGL 2007 websites and can continue to use them in parallel as reference works for the time being.
Please note that these versions will no longer be updated.
For equipment size configurations with additions, you can calculate the fair value of this configuration in personal device lists according to the specifications from the basic information in chapter 10.
First select the equipment size by clicking on the table row for which you want to calculate the fair value. Attachments are automatically included. Enter the technical condition and the year of manufacture of the equipment in the form MM.YYYY in the two fields. The number of years of use is determined from the equipment type.
The most recent mean original value of this equipment size is always used for the calculation. For the year 2025, this is the year 2025, for 2026 ff. the last year for which a producer price index is available. If you have selected a different producer price index, the mean original value shown in the table differs from the calculation basis. You can find all the values used for the calculation by clicking on the info button behind the amount.
Due to the relation to the current date in the calculation of the current value, the total may change at the end of the month.
After the publication of the book edition of each Construction Equipment Register (BGL) version, updates will continue to be made online. The list of these updates can be found in your login area.
The specific amounts of the attachments often depend on a device size. To place the tables of additions in the context of an appliance size ("contextualise"), click the list symbol in the row of the equipment size. The amounts in relation to the selected equipment size are then displayed in the tables of attachments and those attachments that cannot be selected for this equipment size are hidden. Furthermore, the keys of the attachments are written out in concrete terms. Clicking again, selecting a different device size or the respective buttons in the table headers removes the contextualisation.
You can use the plus symbol to add device sizes and contextualised additions to a personal list. In the context menu, you decide whether you want to create a new list or expand an existing list by clicking on it. Equipment sizes may be added multiple times if you select them multiple times.
You have several options when adding attachments:
New equipment sizes can be interpolated or extrapolated for a large number of equipment types in accordance with the specifications in the basic information section 11.2.
Enter the primary characteristic value of the desired equipment size in the first field. The primary characteristic value is always the first column after the appliance size code.
A proposal for an equipment size key is automatically displayed in the second field if it can be derived from the primary characteristic value. If it cannot be derived, enter it individually and confirm your entry again by clicking "Calculate".
The structure of the device list is provided in a tree structure in the navigation area on the left-hand side of the application. The fourth level contains the device types, whose information can be called up by clicking on the navigation point.
You can add equipment types that you repeatedly need to your personal bookmark list by selecting the star.
Entering a search term also has a direct filter-like effect on the table of contents.
The table of contents is also available on the website for an overview of the contents of the Construction Equipment Register (BGL).
The nominal load moment is listed as a technical parameter, particularly for cranes, in the construction equipment list as a primary parameter and is therefore used to categorise cranes. The nominal load moment is specified in tm = tonne-metre after calculation from the radius in metres (m) and the permissible load capacity on the hook (kg).
To determine the nominal load moment of a crane, the outreach variants according to the technical specification of this crane (to be taken from the technical data sheet) are entered in the form. The radii are added together for each entry, i.e. a radius of 20 metres and a further radius of 10 metres are entered in the form as 20 and 30. The applicable load capacity is specified for the respective point (and must decrease accordingly).
The nominal load moment determined at the calculated load point is the intersection of the curve created by the data input and a characteristic curve specified by A = 20 * log(M) - 2.
You can save a note for each equipment type in the box on the right. The notes are clearly displayed in your dashboard on the start page. From there, you can jump directly back to the equipment type.
You can create your own personalised equipment lists from the tables of equipment sizes and attachments and work with these compilations.
The same equipment sizes can appear several times in a list, e.g. if they have different additional equipment and/or devices.
The number of equipment sizes and attachments can then be varied within a list. Please note that even if the number of equipment sizes is increased, the number of attachments remains the same and may need to be increased manually.
You can also use reduction factors to influence the amounts for depreciation and interest as well as repair costs, reset the producer price index globally or calculate the current value of individual configurations. You will find information on this in the help links of the respective widgets.
The personalised lists can be exported or printed.
Each personal equipment list can be exported in its current calculation state. The values are influenced by the currently selected producer price index, the reduction factors for repair rates and depreciation & interest, assigned fair value calculations, and the entered quantity of equipment sizes and accessories.
The subtotal of an equipment size with its assigned accessories forms its own row in the CSV data.
The CSV file includes the following fields:
In the last row, the word “TOTAL” appears in the “Description” field. This row shows the total sum of the individual amounts.
Cell Definitions:
Please note that a csv file must be imported into Excel and cannot be opened directly in Excel.
The mean original value can be set centrally for the base year of the respective BGL issue and changed at any time. The setting affects the average new values of all equipment sizes, including in the personal equipment lists. All values derived from the mean original value (amounts for depreciation and interest, repair costs and amounts dependent on appliance sizes for add-ons) are recalculated as a result of the change.
Further information on the producer price index can be found in the basic information in chapter 5.
In personal lists, the amounts for depreciation and interest as well as for repair costs can be modified by modifying the reduction factors via the corresponding widget. The value modifier only applies to the corresponding column and to the entire list. Mean original values of the equipment sizes in the list and calculated current values remain unaffected by the factors.
The significance of the references for depreciation and interest for Germany in connection with the years of use is described in chapter 4.1.1 of the basic information. In this overview, you will find a list of all device types to which a reference for depreciation and interest is assigned.
The search field allows a full text search within the Construction Equipment Register (BGL). The results of the full-text search are grouped according to the location of the search (type of equipment, additional equipment, accessories and wear parts). Under "Other" in the search overview you will also find results from the basic information.
When entering a search, the exact search word is searched for (e.g. the search for "grave" does not find any gravediggers). If partial words are to be taken into account, you can append an asterisk to the search word. "grave*" will then find the gravegrabber, for example.
In the search results list, the filtered results are displayed in this area. If more than three search results are found per search location, all search results can be displayed by clicking on "all X search results in search location".
The search entry of a specific device size leads you directly to the detail page of the desired device size. You can either enter the type of device in the book notation or use the key as a continuous identifier (e.g. "D.1.42" or "d142").
